Feeling Stuck : Timing-Lessons from a Garden Bench

Ever feel stuck, questioning the value of patience and time versus sheer grit and action? I do, often. But then, life surprises me with moments that put everything into perspective.

Take this bench, for instance. Once part of a makeshift dining table during a time when “getting by” was the theme of my life. Back then, a kind friend gave it a makeover to serve as a usable piece. Fast forward to now: as I completed my current home, the bench sat idly, wandering from my studio to my kids’ rooms, without any clear purpose. For 2.8 years, it had no “home” and was nearly given away, much like how we feel when we’re lost or unsure of our path.

But one fine day almost out of nowhere, I tried it in a new spot, and suddenly it found its perfect place—a cozy spot on the terrace, shaded by a tree. This was beyond what I’d ever imagined when the bench first entered my life as a simple utility item. I realized my initial expectations had been so limited, seeing it only as a makeshift solution rather than something worthy of a beautiful setting.

This bench reminded me: time, patience, and the flow of life can lead us to places we never envisioned. Even when we feel unfit or unsure, life often has a purpose and a place for us, waiting to reveal itself in unexpected ways.

So, if you’re feeling stuck or questioning your path, be patient with yourself the most. Remember that, like this bench, you may be on the brink of finding your true place something even greater than you’d imagined. May you discover those miraculous moments that remind you of your worth and purpose!
