Sometimes, if we truly pause and look, we find a fleeting moment that quiets the mind. It’s just for a split second, but in that brief moment, everything feels perfect—like nothing more is needed. The mind, of course, quickly returns, rushing in with commentary about how beautiful the moment is, adding context, thoughts, and chatter. But for that split second, stillness is enough. The moment itself is enough.
After 17 years of prayer practice, I find myself arriving at these split seconds of quiet more often. It’s incredible to think about how long it can take to still the mind, even for just a heartbeat. I often wonder: how many lifetimes might it take to achieve true, lasting quiet in the mind? It’s a question without a clear answer, but it sparks the imagination.
Yet, even though these moments of calm are brief, they are enough. A glimpse of stillness is enough to believe in the possibility of more.
The Magic of Mindfulness in Nature : Moments like these often come to me in my garden, where the natural beauty of the plants and flowers helps bring me into the present. The quiet rustling of leaves, the vibrant colors of blooms, and the way the sunlight filters through—it’s all a reminder that peace is always within reach if we just pause long enough to notice.
The garden teaches us patience and presence. Just as the flowers bloom slowly and the seasons change at their own pace, so too does our journey toward mindfulness and inner peace. It’s not about rushing to the finish line, but about appreciating the small, magical moments along the way.
Embracing the Power of Small Moments : Mindfulness isn’t about achieving hours of uninterrupted peace or perfect meditation—it’s about those brief, quiet moments when everything feels just right. It’s the seconds when we can simply be, without needing to change or do anything.
These “Moments of Magic” (or M&Ms, as I like to call them) are enough to remind me that stillness is possible. And with each glimpse, I’m reminded to believe in the beauty of that possibility.
How to Find Moments of Stillness:
- Be Present in Nature: Whether it’s a garden, a park, or even a few potted plants, spend time surrounded by greenery. Let nature’s quietness guide you into the present.
- Pause and Observe: Take a moment to simply look at something beautiful without the need for commentary. Focus on the feeling it evokes in you, even if it’s just for a split second.
- Practice Mindfulness in Small Doses: You don’t need to sit for hours in meditation to experience calm. Even a few seconds of stillness can make a difference.
Over time, these small moments accumulate, creating a life filled with more peace, more joy, and more magic.
Much love
