“The Transformative Power of Journaling: A Path to Emotional Healing”

We all engage in some form of “Journaling” throughout our lives. Whether it’s a quick scribble at the end of a notebook, a draft of a letter, or the practice of writing Japa, we often overlook its significance as a powerful technique for well-being.

When I first became a single mother, my children were very young. The early years were incredibly challenging, managing a one-year-old and a four-year-old while striving to provide for them financially without sacrificing precious time together. Although prayers provided comfort, I felt overwhelmed by emotions like anxiety, grief, and fear. I needed a way to process these feelings.

Initially, I wasn’t very familiar with therapy, so I turned to writing. I began by scribbling my thoughts, which helped sporadically but didn’t fully address my emotional turmoil. My first attempt was to write the Ashtakshari mantra (the famous Hindu Japa, “Om Na Mo Na Ra Ya Na Ya”), which helped me stay focused, yet it didn’t allow me to process my emotions effectively.

Eventually, I started writing everything I wanted to express but couldn’t say aloud. I even attempted to jot down happy moments, though this often led to self-doubt. However, as I explored my thoughts, I began to see my fears and doubts unfold like a story. As I gained stability, I started researching journaling techniques, such as manifestation scripting, which turned into an enjoyable activity. I began visualizing my ideal home—an idea that felt absurdly far-fetched at the time—and the emotions I wanted to cultivate, such as warmth and joy. Slowly, this practice became a habit.

I committed to various journaling cycles: 21-day cycles, 48-day cycles, gratitude journaling, and simply writing out my mental narrative. As the years passed, I revisited my past entries and witnessed my emotional landscape evolve in a truly magical way. Yet, like all worthwhile pursuits, this transformation required discipline and a commitment to incorporate journaling into my life.

I also discovered that when relationship challenges arose, techniques like Ho’oponopono and positive affirmations helped shift my mindset in a positive direction.

Now, journaling brings me joy and playfulness. I often write about my dreams, intertwining them with reality, and surprisingly, they frequently intersect. There’s something profoundly energizing about writing by hand—this tactile experience has a significant influence on my life.

If you’re curious about the benefits of journaling, I encourage you to give it a shot for 21 days. You might find it transformative, just as I have.
