About Me
“Hello, I’m Roopa Vittal. My journey has been one of resilience, love, and rediscovery. From facing
the pain of loss to finding light through dance, storytelling, and gardening, I’ve learned that joy is not something we stumble upon; it’s something we create. My hope is to share my lessons, my struggles, and my steps toward healing so that you too can find your own everyday joy.”
My Journey
The book of life has many chapters—some of love, some of loss, some of chaos, and some of joy. Each chapter teaches us something new. This section reflects on the key lessons from my journey and the categories that emerged from these experiences.
I’ve navigated multiple challenges by creating and expressing through art, embracing disciplined routines—whether through dance, prayer, or fitness—and trusting that life’s plans are often far more profound and expansive than my own limited perspective.
Bharatanatyam, which I’ve practiced since age five, has been a lifelong anchor, grounding me through life’s many shifts and connecting me deeply with my spirit. Stories, too, have been powerful companions, especially in times of loss. As a teen, stories reminded me of resilience and grit as I faced the anxiety of my father’s illness, teaching me the importance of not giving up.
Later, when I lost my firstborn to heart disease, I found comfort in the Indian stories I cherished, where even powerful beings grapple with profound loss, helping me find perspective in my own grief.
When life brought even deeper challenges, stories and a dose of humor became vital. My father’s passing after a long illness, followed just two weeks later by my journey into single motherhood, allowed me to observe grief from many angles and to see the value in a healthy dose of humor to navigate life’s twists.
So join me to find that ” One step towards joy” – making it a daily practice to find yourself eventually in the stories of your own life which you enjoy!!!
And, by the way…
Yes, I hold a Master’s in Computer Science and have worked with Microsoft, Google, Adobe, and IBM and a few more in leadership roles in Engineering. While I am grateful for these roles that gave me financial stability, true fulfilment came from the personal journey.
